Supervisor’s Toolkit (2 days)
Supervision is the first line of management in any organisation. Supervisors are tasked with engaging and motivating others to accomplish goals and objectives. This program examines the basic but essential skills required of supervisors, from communicating to managing conflict, decision making to managing performance – all of which are key skills for a successful supervisor.

Leadership Skills for Supervisors (2 days – 1 day studied in this block, 1 day studied in block 2)
This program provides participants with the practical skills and tools to manage in the workplace, appreciate the role of leaders, handle tough conversations, build trust and to motivate, empower and build capability in teams. The course reinforces these skills through practical activities that put theory into practice. Employees will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Lead others – with a focus on situational leadership
- Understand different styles of leadership and when to apply each
- Build both trust and capability within their team
- Motivate and empower others
- Hold “tough conversations”
- Understand and manage change in the workplace

Employee Relations for Supervisors (2 days – studied in block 2)
This program covers the current employee relations legislation, discipline, dealing with third parties such as unions, modern awards, enterprise agreements and processes required for implementing change in the workplace. There is a strong emphasis on resolving and where possible, pre-empting workplace issues before they escalate.
Employees will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Describe the current industrial relations framework as relevant for supervisors
- Explain the operation of significant modern award, enterprise agreement clauses and organisational policies
- Be aware of the roles of third parties including the Fair Work Commission, bargaining representative and unions
