Discipline and Termination: Reducing the Risk

People required to performance manage, counsel, discipline or terminate others may expose their organisation to unfair or unlawful dismissal claims, adverse action claims or discrimination claims. It is crucial that both employers and managers receive training in order to avoid costly, far reaching mistakes when dealing with poor performance or unacceptable conduct.
This workshop is designed to equip resource industry employers and managers with the knowledge of the applicable legislation as well as skills to carry out disciplinary and termination processes to effectively minimise risk and avoid exposure to legal claims.
Learning Outcomes
Course completion will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify valid reasons to discipline and/or terminate an employee
- Understand documentation requirements and notice requirements
- Apply the fair and correct procedures (procedural fairness) when disciplining an employee for poo performance or misconduct
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to conduct effective disciplinary meetings
- Differentiate between unfair and unlawful dismissal, and ways to avoid them
